A Fabulous First Four Years

In Geelong, Gartland has long been one of the most recognisable names of the local real estate market. While it has been synonymous with commercial property leadership since the 1990s, these days the business looks quite different.  Gartland Property, as it is known today, is just as likely to be known for its expertise in residential real estate and management as it is for championing Geelong’s business and industrial property markets.

Four years ago, Gartland Property was bought by long term employee Michael De Stefano, heralding a dynamic new direction as a multi-divisional real estate business.

Michael began his real estate career with Gartland in 2003 and subsequently purchased the business in 2015. Since then, Gartland Property has experienced consistent growth in a continually fluctuating property market. Pivotal to its success has been Michael’s desire to build its residential property division whilst simultaneously leveraging its strength in commercial property.

Michael says, “We’re proud of so much over the past four years.  We measure our success in lots of different ways, but the key things that we’re most proud of include our year on year growth, our strong (and growing) capacity to give back to the community, and our strong ties to Geelong. Similarly, I’m really proud of our organisational culture. Our team is cohesive and highly motivated. Each member makes an important and valuable contribution to our success”.

Community Investment

The past four years have seen Michael and Gartland Property take a great step forward in not only a business sense but also in local community involvement.

Over the past four years, Gartland Property has invested more than $200,000 back into the Geelong community through charitable donations and sponsorship of local sporting clubs and events. In April, Michael also became a Board Member of the Geelong Chamber of Commerce, enabling him to share his experience and perspective to help propel the organisation to new heights.

Gartland Property has, and will continue to be, strongly connected with the Geelong community.

Residential Growth A Key Factor

Since Michael’s takeover, Gartland Property has experienced phenomenal growth across both the commercial and residential property markets. Before Michael became the agency’s Director, Gartland was known largely for its leadership of the commercial real estate market. In 2019, Gartland Property’s residential division strongly complements its commercial arm, and is projected for significant growth over the next year.

Today, the Gartland Property team comprises 14 staff; local experts who are leading the way in industrial, commercial and residential sales, as well as leasing and property management.

In the four short years of Michael’s leadership, the Gartland team has moved offices to the beautiful, central location of 71 Little Malop Street, and the size of the business has doubled.

Today’s Property Market

Outside of the office, Michael appreciates that the Australian property market has slowed down gradually over the course over the past 12 months, however, Gartland Property has continued to see growth.

“Geelong has fared better than Melbourne and Sydney. We haven’t experienced a slide back of prices, but more of a stabilised period in property values. I believe we will get another spike in the Residential Market. Record low-interest rates, a soft loosening in banking criteria, low stock availability, and being one of the fastest population growing regions in the nation, will put pressure on prices, and I believe we will see strong continued growth”, says Michael.

The Future For Gartland Property

“In the next year, we’ll have a strong focus on growing the residential arm of our business, in both sales and management. We will continue our mission to be leaders in the commercial market.”
